Norwood Manor Civic Association

Norwood Manor - A Brief History

Norwood Manor is a quite community, located in southeast Atlanta, GA five miles south of Five Points, near the Lakewood Fairgrounds and the historic South View Cemetery. This middle class community has existed since the late 1940s. It is one of the first subdivisions developed by African Americans for African Americans in Atlanta, annexed in 1952 as part of a larger expansion of Atlanta into southeast Fulton County. The original residents were hard working middle class families from all walks of life: postal workers, steel workers, railroad employees, school teachers, entrepreneurs, etc.  Today's families in "The Manor" are similar in makeup. There are a total of 150 homes in the community known as "The Manor" as well as several homes across the Georgia Southern Railroad that are an extended part of our neighborhood. Constitution Apartments and Thomasville Estates are also a part of our community. Schools in the area include John Wesley Dobbs Elementary, Thomasville Elementary, Price Middle School, Atlanta Youth Academy and the Schools of South Atlanta.

Norwood Manor Civic Association, Inc. is a non-profit corporation, established in 1994 to better represent the interest of the residents of Norwood Manor with developers and local government officials. Its main purpose is to provide residents a means for addressing improvements and living conditions in the community and to provide a organized and formal forum to present their concerns.

All residents, resident organizations, and resident businesses are encouraged to join and participate in the activities of the organization. None are excluded and all are invited.
